All Def Digital (ADD) created by media mogul Russell Simmons and TV CEO Brian Robbins recently released a YouTube clip negatively exposing a historical woman.
“The Harriet Tubman Sex-tape” was created by comedians Shannon Malcolm, Destorm Powers, and Jason Horton to put a hilarious twist on how mother Moses really freed the slaves. To say the least, besides Russel Simmons not many people thought this was funny. I mean seriously to this day, slavery is a very controversial subject and for it to be made a mockery of is really disturbing.
The scene starts with “Harriet Tubman” trying to seduce her master telling him, “All these years I’ve been acting like I didn’t enjoy our special time together.” As the two engage in sexual activity the master starts to confess his love for her until she brushes him off.
It’s really ironic how someone such as Russell Simmons who has spoken out against race and other issues is promoting this disrespectful mockery of our history. He must have felt some type of way after receiving back lash because he issued an apology via Global Grind.
He said,
“In the whole history of Def Comedy Jam, I’ve never taken down a controversial comedian. When my buddies from the NAACP called and asked me to take down the Harriet Tubman video from the All Def Digital YouTube channel and apologize, I agreed.
I’m a very liberal person with thick skin and it’s hard to offend me. My first impression of the Harriet Tubman piece was that it was about what one of the actors said in the video, that 162 years later, there’s still tremendous injustice. And Harriet Tubman outwitting the slave master, I thought that was politically correct. Silly me. I guess I’m older now and instead of fighting for one piece of content, I can understand why so many people are upset. I have taken down the video. Lastly, I would never condone violence against women in any form, and for all of those I offended, I am sincerely sorry.”
In addition to that AChange.org has created a petition to get Russell’s video removed from YouTube! Looks like that went in effect because the video is no longer available!
